Chef reviewed: Global Hashira Knife Block Set
SG-24 — 5 out of 5 stars
Stunning, razor-sharp, and beautifully light — a pro chef’s dream set! I recently picked up the Global Hashira 7-piece knife block set in maple from Myer during a sale, and it’s been an absolute joy to use. As a professional chef who’s spent years with heavier Western knives (like F.Dick / Mundial sets), switching to these agile Japanese blades has been a game-changer. Why I love this set. Lightweight & agile: Each knife feels nimble in the hand, which reduces fatigue during long prep sessions. The balance is forward, letting the blade do the work without the heaviness I was used to. Razor-sharp edge: Right out of the box, these knives slice through everything with minimal effort. The acute edge angle typical of Japanese knives gives incredibly clean cuts. Beautiful design: The maple block looks elegant on the bench, and the minimalist Global styling is both modern and timeless. It’s a set you’ll be proud to display. Complete everyday coverage: The set includes a paring knife, utility, bread knife, cook’s knife, and more—covering nearly all daily tasks in a professional or home kitchen. A note for fellow professionals If you’re coming from heavy German-style knives, you’ll notice the difference immediately. I still plan to have my older knives restored by a sharpener who understands blade geometry to keep the edges performing at their best. Worth it. Final tip Keep an eye on Myer’s sales—this set is a premium product, but when discounted it’s an amazing deal. If you value precision, comfort, and aesthetics in your kitchen tools, the Hashira set is well worth the investment. Highly recommended for both serious home cooks and working chefs.
